Iowa Lakes Community College
The Central Community College softball team kicked off conference play this past Wednesday with hosting a doubleheader vs. a tough Iowa Lakes squad. A recap of the doubleheader is below:
Game 1: Iowa Lakes- 7 Raiders- 2
The Raiders stayed within striking distance early, trailing only 2-0 through the first four innings of play. The defensive highlight of the game came from Kami Kaskie, who executed a spectacular diving catch in center field and fired a laser to home plate to complete a double play. Despite a fifth-inning surge that cut the lead to 2-1 and a late run scored by Logan Rainforth, the Lakers' offense pulled away in the final frame. While the Raider bats struggled to find a rhythm against the Lakers, the team showed grit in the field under pressure. Lextyn Harker took the loss on the mound, battling through a potent Iowa Lakes lineup before the Lakers broke the game open late.
Game 2: Iowa Lakes- 2 Raiders- 9
Central Community College roared back in the second game, powered by a massive six-run explosion in the third inning. Kloey Johnson was a force at the plate, leading the charge with a stellar 3-for-4 performance. Support came from Jordyn Trotta (2-for-3) and Kami Kaskie, who reached base in every plate appearance with two hits and two walks. On the rubber, Lextyn Harker earned the win with four solid innings and five strikeouts, while Callen Heule slammed the door with three hitless innings of relief. The Raiders played "clean" softball to secure the split, finishing the contest with zero defensive errors.
Raiders move to 9-8 and conference play continues for the Raiders at home this Saturday & Sunday at Noon & 2pm against North Iowa Area Community College and Iowa Central Community College.
