The CCC volleyball team competed in a tournament over this past Friday-Saturday stretch. Friday afternoon they played 1 match against Metropolitan Community College and Cowley County Community College. On Saturday, the Raiders faced off against Pratt Community College and Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College. These matches were played in Arkansas City, KS. A recap of each match is below:
Match 1 vs. Metropolitan Community College
The Raiders first matchup of the tournament came against a good Metro Team. Central played them very tough, keeping all three sets close. Despite the tough play, Metro was able to edge out CCC in three sets, 25-22, 25-19, and 25-21. Chloe Henn led the team with 7 kills. Maleigha Johnson led the team in digs with 19. Meah Sackett contributed 14 assists as well.
Match 2 vs. Cowley County Community College
Cowley was able to control this match from start to finish, winning all three sets with scores of 25-15, 25-11, and 25-17. This resulted in a 3-0 match sweep for Cowley. Kerry Ryan led the way with 6 kills, Henn with 8 digs and Sackett tallied 13 assists.
Match 3 vs. Pratt Community College
Day two was a much better showing from the Raiders, playing a super tough match against a very good Pratt CC team. This match went 5 sets with Pratt edging out CCC at the end. The set scores were 25-16, 24-26, 20-25, 25-23, and 15-10. Mallory Dressen led the way with 19 kills and Sackett tallied 46 assists. Johnson had a whopping 35 digs in this one as well.
Match 4 vs. Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College
Central finally were able to cash out on their hard work with a 3-2 win over Northeastern. This match was another back and forth battle, right after going 5 sets with Pratt. CCC showed a ton of heart here to keep grinding and get a win. CCC was down 2-1 on sets (25-21, 17-25, 25-15) with their backs against the wall, and edged out a grindy set four 25-23 to force the fifth. The fifth was back and forth, but CCC edged out with a 17-15 win in extras to give CCC the match win 3-2. Dressen led the way with 13 kills and Sackett tallied 39 assists. Johnson had a whopping 20 digs in this one as well.
CCC Volleyball moves to 11-12 and is in action next vs Northeast CC in Columbus on September 30th.
