The CCC volleyball team faced off against the #1 nationally ranked Cowley College at the Raider Field house on Friday. Following that, CCC headed to Sioux City to compete in 2 matches against North Dakota State College of Science and Lake Region State College - ND on Saturday in the Siouxland JUCO Invitational. A recap of the matches are below:
Friday vs. #1 Cowley Community College
The Raiders played Cowley extremely tough in the first set, going back and forth with neither team going up by more than 6 points. Towards the end of the period, however, Cowley got a timely challenge call to flip their way to give them the set one win 25-23. Central played a great set two, leading most of the way. Towards the end of the set, however, CCC lost their steam allowing Cowley to take set two 25-22. Set three was the same blueprint, with CCC playing extremely tough but just getting outlasted towards the end, losing set three 25-22. Chloe Henn led the team in kills with 10 and Meah Sackett contributed 24 assists. Maleigha Johnson had 7 digs in this one as well.
Saturday vs. North Dakota State College of Science
Central was able to take care of NDSCS in 3 sets to start their JUCO Invitational off. The first set was a CCC win 25-18 and set two a CCC win 25-20. Both pretty close sets with NDSCS hot on the Raider's tail. In the third and final set, Central played with the Wildcats the majority of this set, going back and forth throughout. The set was won in extras by Central, 24-26, showing great finishing ability to close out the sweep against the Wildcats. Malorie Staskal led the team with 8 kills but Chloe Henn and Mallory Dreesen were right there with 7 kills a piece. Dressen also had 13 digs to top the box score for the Raiders. Meah Sackett contributed 26 assists as well.
Saturday vs. Lake Region State College - ND
In the first set, CCC was able to take care of the Royals 25-18. The second set of this match, however, showed that Lake Region is not going to go down without a fight. This was a close one with it going into extras with the Royals winning the second set 28-26. The Raiders had a choice here to let Lake Region take this game back, or stop their run right in it's tracks. Central chose the second option, winning set three 25-20 and set four 25-18 giving the Raiders the 3-1 match win. Marin Reilly and Dressen both led the team in kills with 16 and Meah Sackett contributed a whopping 52 assists. Sackett also added 20 digs in this one as well.
The CCC Volleyball team moves to 4-3 and is back in action at Southwestern CC Wednesday at 7PM.
