Golf: CCC Competes in the Southwestern Premier
The Central Community College golf team took part in the two-day Southwestern Premier at Lake Panorama National Resort in Panora, Iowa.
Opening day saw gorgeous weather. However, the new course and the length caused difficulty on the front and back nine. The Raiders were in 8th place after the first day with freshman Spencer Knispel leading the pack with a 77 (T-16th overall). Day two's weather the exact opposite from the previous day as a constant drizzle hung around, making for a rough start in the first six or seven holds. However, the Raiders eventually starting hitting the ball more efficiently. Sophmore Jude Elgert lead the second day with a 78, two strokes ahead of the day before. Overall, CCC finished in eighth place.
"I thought this tournament was a great learning experience on how starting strong and finishing strong is equally important," said CCC head coach Sam Elgert. "We have had some trouble this year starting rounds bad then having to dig our way out of a hole. We are going to work on this before the region championships this next week so we are ready to rock."
