Golf: Spring Season gets Underway in Lincoln
The Central Community College golf team traveled to Lincoln to open the spring season. The Raiders competed in the Doane Spring Invitational at Highlands Golf Course on Monday and Pioneers Golf Course on Tuesday.
The conditions on day one were pretty difficult with 25 MPH winds, but the Raiders went to work. Jude Elgert finished with a 79, followed by Spencer Knispel carding an 80. Colby Sorensen posted an 82, Steven Sladky was right behind at 83 and Jack Edwards rounded out the scoring with an 89.
The second day got off to a chilly start but eventually, it turned into a gorgeous 70-degree day. CCC shot a combined 16 shots better in the second round shooting a team 303. Elgert and Sladky each carded a 75, followed by Knispel with a 76, Sorensen with a 77 and Edwards with a 78. Overall, the Raiders finished in 9th place.
"I was very happy with the start to our spring season," said CCC head coach Sam Elgert. "The first day, we didn't see the scores we wanted to see at all, but the guys buckled down the hatches and got to work on day two with all shooting sub-80 rounds and improving their team score drastically."
The Raiders return to action in Kansas April 4-5.
