Men’s Basketball: Reivers Rule Raiders
The Central Community College men's basketball team closed out the regular season with a 78-65 home loss to Iowa Western Community College on Tuesday night.
After keeping close for the first six minutes of the opening half, the Raiders went scoreless for four minutes and the Reivers took advantage and built a 15-point lead, 25-10. Iowa Western held Central to five points over the final five minutes of the first half en route to a 46-27 halftime lead.
The Raiders jumped out of the second-half gate with a 17-8 run to pull to within a 54-44 deficit. CCC trailed by 10 for a second time later in the second half, but that's as close as it got and Iowa Western took the 78-65 decision.
"We did not play well in the first half at all," said CCC head coach John Ritzdorf. "I was most disappointed in our lack of effort and urgency early in the game. Things improved in the second half, but it was too little too late."
Kevin Cook led the Raiders with 14 points while Tredyn Prososki (pictured right) tallied 13 points. Caleb Muia finished with 11 points.
With the loss, CCC closed out the regular season with a 16-9 record.
Up next, the Raiders will host the Region 9 men's basketball championship game on Saturday against Southeast Community College. Central and Southeast split the two regular season meetings with the road team winning each game. On Jan. 29, the Storm defeated the Raiders at the Raider Fieldhouse, 75-72. CCC returned the favor on Feb. 19 with a 91-58 victory in Beatrice. Saturday's title game is set for 1 p.m. at the Raider Fieldhouse.
