Bio

Jared Johnson is entering his 16th season as the assistant coach for the Central Community College (CCC) volleyball team. In his role, Johnson assists head coach Mary Young in several phases of team operations and has played a vital part in the program’s continued success.

Johnson brings a wealth of experience from both the collegiate and club levels. While attending CCC–Columbus, he served as a student assistant coach while earning his associate of arts degree. He then transferred to Peru State College, where he played on the men’s volleyball team. As a senior, he led the nation in digs per game and earned MAMVIC All-Conference honors, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in middle grade education.

From 2005 to 2012, Johnson competed as a libero for the Omaha-based Slamwich club volleyball team, helping lead them to back-to-back national championships in 2007 and 2008.

Johnson was named the Two-Year College Assistant Coach of the Year by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) in 2016—a national honor that highlights his impact and dedication to collegiate volleyball.

Outside of volleyball, Johnson has spent nine years teaching seventh grade science at Columbus Middle School and previously served as head volleyball coach at Columbus High School for three years. He earned a Master of Arts in education with an emphasis in secondary school counseling from Wayne State College and currently works as a school counselor at Columbus Middle School.
