Women’s Basketball: Post-Season Honors Awarded
Three Central Community College women's basketball players have earned post-season honors.
Sophomore Brittney Veik (left) and freshman Amy Mitchell (center) have been named to the Nebraska Community College Athletic Conference All-Conference Team while freshman Madisen Jelinek (right) was named Honorable Mention.
Additionally, Veik and Mitchell were named to the All-Region 9 team following CCC's loss to North Platte Community College in the Region 9 championship game on Feb. 26.
Veik played in 22 games and started all but one. She was the team's leading scorer with 14.6 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game. Veik also finished at the top in free throw percentage in NJCAA Division II women's basketball at 92.8 percent.
"Brittney did a good job this year and it is nice that she got recognized for her efforts," said CCC head coach Billy Perkins. "I am very proud of Brittney and how she led our team. She is going to be missed on and off the court."
Mitchell played in 22 games and started 17. She was the second-leading scorer with 13.6 points per game. Mitchell led the Raiders in assists (3.3 per game) and steals (2.6 per game).
"Amy is such a good scorer, and I am very proud of her and the time she put in during the course of the season," said Perkins. "She has grown so much and to see her get into a rhythm late in the year was great. Amy grew a lot, both on and off the court."
Jelinek played in all of CCC's 23 games and started 22. She averaged 11.9 points per game and led the Raiders in rebounding with 8.8 boards per outing. Jelinek also led CCC in field goal shooting at 55.7 percent (112-201) and blocked a team-best 13 shots.
"Madisen worked hard all year and is well deserving of recognition," Perkins said. "I am very proud of how Madisen and played hard throughout each game on both ends of the floor. She is a special talent."
The Raiders finished the 2021-22 season with a mark of 11-12.
