The Central Community College women's basketball team lost both games of the Emerson Classic at Marshalltown (Iowa) Community College. A recap of both games is below. The Raiders will return to action on Tuesday with a game against McCook Community College. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. at the Raider Fieldhouse.
Game 1 vs. Iowa Lakes Community College
The Lakers defeated the Raiders, 67-50, in Friday's opener. CCC kept close through the first two quarters and trailed 31-29 at halftime. Iowa Lakes took command in the third period with a 25-9 triumph and held on through the final quarter.
Brittney Veik led the Raiders with 20 points while Julia Jurek scored 11 points.
"It was a tough game against Iowa Lakes," said CCC head coach Billy Perkins. "They were athletic, but we could not get anything going in the second half."
Game 2 vs. Marshalltown Community College
The Raiders owned the first half as they led the hometown Tigers at halftime, 39-27. However, like the day before, Marshalltown took control in the third quarter and outscored CCC, 21-5, and went on to the victory.
"In the first half, things were going well for us," said Perkins. "In the second half, Marshalltown got going from three and we just couldn't score."
With the losses, the Raiders are 5-3 on the season.
"We learned a lot this weekend," said Perkins. "Even though we didn't win, we learned that we must be more physical and play smarter."
