Women’s Basketball: CCC Drops Opener
The Central Community College women's basketball team lost to the Hastings College JV, 67-55, on Tuesday night in Hastings.
The Raiders were shorthanded as only five players made the trip. However, CCC (0-1) kept close in the first half as Madisen Jelinek (pictured left) scored 12 points in the first half. The Broncos led at halftime, 28-24. The Raiders kept hanging around in the second half and with 4:56 remaining in the fourth quarter, CCC trailed 53-48. However, the Broncos picked up steam and went on to the 12-point victory.
Jelinek finished with 29 points while Bailey Keller and Katie Paczosa each scored nine points.
"I was very proud of our effort and composure in being shorthanded with just five girls," said CCC head coach Billy Perkins. "I'm very blessed to be able to coach those five because they played really hard."
CCC will host the Bank of the Valley Classic on Friday and Saturday at the Raider Fieldhouse. On Friday night, the Raiders will battle Midland University JV at 7 p.m. On Saturday at 2 p.m., CCC will take on Des Moines Area Community College.
