Women’s Basketball: Indians Overtake Raiders
The Central Community College women's basketball team lost to McCook Community College, 61-49, on Saturday at the Raider Fieldhouse.
The Raiders got off to a hot start by outscoring the Indians, 16-4, in the first quarter. Central extended its lead to 23-6 at the 7:30 mark of the second quarter on Bailey Lehr's three-point bucket. McCook responded with a 13-5 run to close out the quarter to make the halftime score 28-21 in favor of the Raiders.
The teams remained close to start the second half and CCC led 44-42 at the end of the third period. However, McCook took the lead for good about one minute into the fourth quarter and held the Raiders to five points en route to the 61-49 victory.
While the loss was disappointing, CCC head coach Billy Perkins gave props to his team.
"I am very proud of our team's effort," said Perkins. "We played physical and had great effort."
Lehr led the Raiders in scoring and rebounding with 22 points and eight boards.
The Raiders have lost eight in a row and are now 3-12 on the season.
Central will return to action on Thursday with a road venture to Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colo. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m. CST.
