Women’s Basketball: Trappers Get by Raiders
The Central Community College women's basketball team lost to Northwest (Wyo.) College, 74-67, in first round action of the WNCC Classic.
The Trappers outscored the Raiders, 17-6, in the first quarter before the Raiders were able to keep closer in the second period. Northwest led at the half, 38-22. Central outscored Northwest, 25-19, in the fourth quarter, but time ran out and the Trappers were able to hold off the Raiders for the seven-point win.
Brittney Veik, the NJCAA DII Women's Basketball Player of the Week, led three CCC players in double figures with 21 points. Macey Thege scored 15 points and hauled in nine rebouds, while Allanah Beller (pictured left) finished with 14 points. Bailey Lehr pulled down 11 rebounds.
"We gave them a good run at the end," said CCC head coach Billy Perkins. "I am proud of our effort, but we just could not hit shots early."
The loss gives the Raiders a 3-5 mark heading into Friday's second round of the WNCC Classic. CCC will take on Lamar (Colo.) at 2:30 p.m. CST.
