The Central Community College softball team lost both games of a double-header at Northeast Community College in Norfolk on Tuesday.
In the opener, the bats for both clubs were silent through four and a half innings. Then in the bottom of the fifth, the Hawks exploded with nine runs and went on to post a 9-0 win over the Raiders. Central's Andrea Fernandez collected two hits while Bailey Jones and Emma Lees recorded one hit apiece. CCC hurler Kailee Pollard took the loss.
In the nightcap, the Raiders were on the cusp of victory, leading 10-9 through six and a half innings. In the bottom of the seventh with the score tied at 10, Northeast's Abby Balfour belted a walk-off homerun to lift the Hawks to a 13-10 win. CCC's Fernandez scored a homerun while Anna Halladay and Kaylee McNeese recorded a double each. Central pitcher Payten Gibson took the loss.
With the losses, CCC is 7-11 on the season. Up next, the Raiders will travel to Iowa Western Community College for a twin bill on Saturday. Games times are set for 1 and 3 p.m.
