The Central Community College men's soccer team split both games at the Hawkeye RedTail Invitational on Saturday and Sunday. The event was hosted by Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo, Iowa. A recap of both games is below. The Raiders are 4-4 on the season and will return to action on Thursday with a road contest against Midland University JV. Game time is to be determined.
Game 1 vs. Hawkeye Community College
HCC's Brandon Savage booted an unassisted goal in overtime to lift the host RedTails to a 3-2 win over the Raiders.
CCC's Mark Ackerman scored an unassisted goal in the 20th minute to give the Raiders a 1-0 lead. The lead held until the 77th minute when HCC's Alex Harris found the back of the net off Savage's assist to tie the game at 1-1. Four minutes later, the Raiders moved back in front 2-1 when Marc Ackerman scored a goal off the assist of Ivan Lopez. With 17 seconds remaining in regulation, HCC's Robert Lodge scored the game-tying goal with Harris on the assist and the teams went into overtime tied at 2-2. Seven minutes into the extra session, Savage scored the game winner.
CCC netminder Rasmus Berg faced 20 shots and made 17 saves.
Game 2 vs. Parkland College
The Raiders snapped the Cobras' four-game winning streak with a 2-1 victory.
The game was scoreless until the 50th minute when Parkland's Matheus Araujo scored an unassisted goal on a penalty kick to give the Cobras a 1-0 lead. CCC tied the game at 1-1 in the 72nd minute when Ivan Lopez scored a goal off the assist of Mark Ackerman. Eight minutes later, Leonardo Paschoal put the Raiders up 2-1 with an unassisted goal on a penalty kick. The CCC defense kept Parkland from scoring and the Raiders took the 2-1 final.
CCC goalie Rasmus Berg faced seven shots and netted six saves.
"Overall, it was a good showing this weekend against two ranked opponents," said CCC head coach Luis Pulido. "The loss on Saturday was tough because we were leading 2-1 and Hawkeye CC tied the game with 17 seconds left. Fortunately, we were able to bounce back on Sunday and beat Parkland CC."
